During the holidays unless extra hands were allocated to the Shipping Department, I was approved for, expected of, and at worst, pressured into overtime. Except for the Supervisor, schedules weren't set into stone, but proper advance notice was required for any changes, switches, and so on.

The company had the goal in mind to offset schedules as much as possible to provide the widest window of operation. I actually had my schedule at 5:30AM for a long time. Most individuals came into work as early as 7:00AM or as late as 9:00AM. The Owner on the other hand can also be a problem, he swings wildly between being a cool friendly guy to being an oppressive boss, and while he normally means well and is a good person, he has a tendency to worry about the efficiency of everything in the company, and he is reluctant to give up any control over anything, he has to approve every decision, even if he constantly - more. The current manager, or Director of Operations at this point, admitted to purposely creating a toxic and hostile work environment so that people would leave the company, so that the company wouldn't have to give out raises or promotions, and in his words "the revolving door works, people come in, hate the situation and leave", and he said this with utmost pride as if it was his greatest achievement, and also said that the Owner of the company is going to have to get over the fact that he, the manager, is turning the company into a cold unfeeling corporate machine instead of the welcoming and family-like company that the Owner envisioned the company to be when he originally started it in his garage, and that the change was going to happen whether the Owner likes it or not.

Started working at the company shortly after high school in 2016, was hired by a production manager that genuinely cared about all his employees, was fair and would listen to concerns and opinions, but shortly after i was hired, he left the company because he felt under appreciated by the owner, and his replacement was someone who came from a toxic and selfish work culture and he slowly corrupted the relaxed and family-like work culture. I personally built great relationships here, had many laughs, and I really appreciate my manager and supervisor for being so cool and understanding - more. With that being said, I have faith this will get done soon because there are many lovely people that work here that care and want the same thing to be done, and hopefully this review will further make an impact. My only piece of advice towards that would be for the CEO of the company to take a look and see what could be renewed of the equipment for the sake of the employees' well being. They have injured people before and they will again if not replaced with a new rig. One of several examples is that the wood sanders there need to be replaced. The only thing in the way of my rating being 5 stars is that a few of the standards there in terms of safety should be better regulated. There is still potential room to move up the ladder there, but it takes a lot of work and it will undoubtfully be competitive because many people there want to climb up too. I would consider it an "in-between" job where it is not a final destination, which is great for anyone looking to gain work experience in a unique field of work while working towards a higher career goal. Very laid back environment, where you get more freedom than any job I have had prior working here. Jokes are always being made but everyone gets down to business when it's crunch time, music can be listened to/ played (within reason), and higher ups are willing to work with you on a number of things. I looked forward every time I came to work because I got to spend the day with awesome people.
